Jump Scares: The Five Nights At Freddy's Trailer
About 8 years later, we FINALLY got a FNAF movie trailer.
I thought it would be neat to introduce something new to the newsletter called “Jump Scares,” which will be bite-size pieces posted during the week!
These are things I want to talk about but don’t really think deserve a full-on analysis or anything like that.
So, the Five Nights at Freddy’s movie finally got a trailer. It’s been like—what? Over seven years or something like that?
I was around 13-years-old when the first game came out. I watched DashieGames play it, screaming his head off and cursing up a storm. I never played it myself, but I watched my fair share of let’s plays and theory videos (thanks, MatPat).
Now, after years of anticipation, we finally got a trailer for the upcoming movie.
I have to admit, I’m impressed.
The core animatronics look amazing, though I expected nothing less from Jim Henson’s Creature Shop.
It’s also pretty cool to see the animatronics actually act like pizza parlor mascots, performing on stage like a classic Showbiz Pizza.
I am a little worried over a few things though.
One, those red eyes are an eyesore.
Haha, get it? Yeah, I’m sorry about that one too.
Anyway, the red eyes are far too cheesy. I know this is a movie about haunted animatronics in a pizza parlor, but even the game didn’t have the cliche of glowing red eyes. I hope we see some pure black eyes or something of that nature instead, that way they feel more ghostly.
The only other thing that worries me is what may happen after the film is released. I’m partly worried about it turning into another Sausage Party situation, with parents complaining about how the film traumatized their children.
Which, come on… you gotta blame yourself if you managed that one.
There’s a lot of FNAF merch that’s geared toward kids, though. Hell, the entirety of Security Breach was basically a children’s game considering it lacked any real horror. I’m not sure when it happened, but it basically became the modern day Goosebumps.
I was a kid when I got into it too, so I’m not saying it’s a bad thing that kids are able to find their love of horror within the franchise. It’s just… I worry about what will happen with the movie in terms of that. I don’t want the movie to feel like it has to hold back.
Plus, I do hope the movie is good for those kids. They deserve good scary FNAF content, not more neon Funkos. Though, I’m sure Funko won’t miss the opportunity to milk the movie in terms of merchandising too.
Either way, I’m excited. The teaser looks fantastic, and I hope we will be getting a full trailer soon! I want to see some more of the horror elements shine in this iteration of the story.
What are your thoughts on the new trailer? Are you excited?
