Jump Scares: The Answers are in the Woods
Move over, Blair Witch, there’s a new horror documentary in town.
Indie horror can be hard to traverse through, especially in our current digital age. Creators post, post, post, but there’s never a guarantee that anybody will ever see their work. Luckily, there’s bigger content creators out there that like to showcase these wonderful stories, such as that of Loey Lane.
On February 16th, Loey uploaded a video on her YouTube channel called The TikTok Cult No One's Heard Of: Children of the Woods, MorgsHauntings & The Scary Side of TikTok.
If you don’t have time to watch the video, here’s the rundown:
TikTok creator Morgs receives a cryptic message from an account named CHILDRENOFTHEWOODS claiming to be exposing an underground cult in South Carolina.
The account tells Morgz to come to the woods alone to seek answers about the cult.
Morgz goes to the location, but with her husband, and they find painted upside down crosses on the trees. They follow the crosses, with each paint job getting fresher than the last.
By night time, Morgz and her husband come across a group of people with torches, who then chase them down. Luckily, the couple make it out safely.
So, Morgs was very obviously set up.
Days later, the cult’s account post a video of Morgs and her husband sitting on a couch in their home. It was taken without them knowing, as a warning of sorts. Morgs claims she knows nothing about it.
Finally, the trailer for the upcoming documentary is released.
You probably guessed it by now, but this is all an elaborate ARG to promote the film. Similar to how The Blair Witch Project once intrigued the masses with the early internet, it seems as if the director of The Children of the Woods is doing the same.
Along with the film, it’s revealed that there will also be a video game released on Steam for people to explore more of the story.
The creator, Jack Robinson, is hoping to get the film released in theaters. A great way to get that to happen is by sharing his work, and I want to help out a fellow creative in any way possible. I certainly believe that this is an interesting new horror project, and it deserves to garner any attention with the amount of work that’s been put into it.
Loey has also made a follow-up video if you want to learn further about the timeline:
I also suggest following the official Children of the Woods TikTok account to keep up with the latest news and clues. I hope all the best to Jack.
Let’s get the cult in theaters.
